I hate to post a thread that sounds so similar to a big one already up there, but I don't want to go in there with a different topic.
To whit, I was a 'late bloomer' in regards to tabletop gaming. Didn't start playing until I was around 22, right as D&D 4th edition had come out. Dabbled a bit with 3.5 but never really got into a full campaign for it.

These days I see myself to have kind of 'moved on' from D&D and tend to be more interested in mixing it up with new systems (L5R, Fate, Edge of the Empire and Shadowrun to name a few) than going back to the old D20.

Still, sometimes I kind of wonder about trying what I missed out on as a kid, just rolling the dice and going with what I got rather than meticulously planning out a character from level 1 to 30. There's also a bit of craving for old-school adventuring in medieval fantasy like only D&D can deliver, so i'm wondering if delving in to the old days would be worth it from me.
Old hands, please tell me why I should (Or shouldn't) do it!
